"Education is the key"."Education is about inspiring one's mind not just filling their head". "Allienating millions of kids that don't see any purpose on going to school".These sentences summarizes the content of the video played today in class named "Changing education paradigms", by Kevin Robinson.
According to Robinson, much of the present education system in the United States forsters conformity, compliance and strandardization rather than creative approaches to learning. Kevin Robinson is doctor in Education by London University. He has become an international advisor on education. He proposes a change of the paradigms that let creativity of every child flow, not die as it is being currently.
Sir Kevin Robinson.
"There is more than one way to be an educated man", says Robinson, who is considered an expert in matters with creativity, education quality, innovation and human resources.
This videos have allowed us to reflect about how education is projected today and how as teachers, we contribute sometimes to create "robots" instead o critical thinking persons. To change this situation, Robinson proposes us act on three fronts:
First: We should foster diversity by offering a broad curriculum and encouraging individualization of the learning process.
Second: We should foster curiosity through creative teaching, which depends on high quality teacher training and development.
Third: We should focus on awaking creativity rather than standardized testing, giving the responsibility for defining the course of education to individual schools and teachers.
As a conclusion, we can say that we can only succed as educators if we recognize that education is a dynamic human system, not a mechanical one. Successful school administration is a matter of fostering a helpful climate rather than "command and control".
