Attention to Diversity
I never could imagine that the topic "Attention to Diversity" was so funny. In fact, I believe this project was the funniest of the subject. The reason was the type of activity we choose to encourage students: playing a Quiz.
We again depeloped a collaborative activity in order to make the rest of the class understand and learn the different aspects of Attention to Diversity, because this is the widest part of the subject.
The common topic "Attention to Diversity" was divided in four different areas, and they were assigned to each student's group:
Our item was "Ordinary Measures". We had one week to think how to present the topic to the rest of the class in an active and dinamic way. We were the first, so it was necessary to be original: we had to design a game to make the contents enjoyable. In fact the rest of groups repeated our idea !!
Finally we decided to organize the session in the following parts:
First 10 minutes: We present a video about "Ordinary Measures of Diversity" to introduce the topic to the rest of the class:
Next 20 minutes: For this game, we divided the class into five teams. They all were given written information about a specific part and the final questionaire about "Ordinary Measures of Diversity". First individually, then in groups of two , and then in four (1-2-4 thechnique), they had to interiorized the information and find out the right answer for each question.
Next 15 minutes. One speaker of each group had to share their group's answers with the rest of the class and all students have to take notes in order to know how to answer the final questionaire.
Next 10 minutes: The Quiz. This was the funniest part of the activity. It was a bit confusing at first because the initial idea was that all groups gave the answer aloud, but we decided to change the strategy and asked them for answering in silence.
Last 5 minutes: Evaluation of the activity. We did it in extra time and gave the results in the next session.
This activity has allowed us to learn more about how to organize a one hour session and make it more enjoyable. At the same time, we have learnt a lot about Attention to Diversity Measures !!
